Samsung Galaxy Note

Samsung has shown off the Galaxy Note at IFA 2011, a huge 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED handset which comes complete with a stylus called the S Pen.

The Galaxy Note has a 1.4GHz ARM-based dual-core processor inside, though we have to be honest and say that while some apps were snappy, there was a bit of lag when dropping into things like the web browser. That surprised us as we'd assume the units we saw on the stand were shipping models. And it's doubly surprising given the Note's speedy processor
The Samsung Galaxy Note screen delivers 285ppi - the iPhone 4 delivers 326ppi according to Apple. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S2 delivers 218ppi, and the older Galaxy S 233ppi.

Spice MITab

It's raining tablets these days in India, but not all tablets are worth buying matter how cheap they may be. Quality is the main concern for buyers. Though, a tablet within Rs 12,000 is a bargain, but then that isn't small amount for many of us, and therefore it is important that the tablet you buy does its stated job well.

Buttons are typical of Android phones - this can be called a phone with big screen running Android 2.2. There are three capacitive touch buttons at the bottom and when kept horizontal there is a front camera in the top middle, the rest is all screen surrounded by black glossy finish. In terms of buttons and ports the tablet has (when kept horizontal) microSD and SIM slots at the bottom along with the mic port, and on the top right hand corner are the power and lock button. On the left side there is volume rocker apart from reset button, and on the right is the USB port, charger socket, and a 3.5 mm jack.

And this Spice tablet does pretty well. It is a stretched Android 2.2 phone, and therefore does all that an Android phone does and in a similar fashion. Its GPS Navigation works better than it would on a phone thanks to a bigger screen which renders bigger maps with better visibility.

The browsing experience or watching videos is also pleasurable due to a large screen and decent processing speed. Gaming was also good. However, do not expect to run graphics heavy games like Asphalt 6 Adrenaline.

On the negative side, we faced issues when the SIM got stuck in its slot, and we had to pull it out with forceps. While it can be a rare issue, overall build quality is slightly iffy with few misplaced bits here and there, though it is certainly not a big problem.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Asus finally unveils its much anticipated Transformer Prime. It's going to be the first tablet to feature Nvidia's Tegra 3 SoC. While it's not going to ship with Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich, Asus promises a few more surprises beyond just more horsepower.

The Transformer Prime promises to be the thinnest tablet yet at 8.3 mm. Granted, Apple's iPad 2 officially comes in at 8.6 mm, so we aren't talking about a difference in magnitude.
With the exception of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, all of the Android-based tablets we've tested thus far have been thick, chunky and heavy compared to the iPad 2. However, Asus is trying to demonstrate that, once you nail down functionality, it's easy to improve on aesthetics.
